Faded

when you wake from a dream

into which you had drifted

if you sleep again quickly

you can dream it again

but it’s never the same

the scenery’s shifted,  it’s not as it seemed

where there were roses, there’s only a shadow

the windows are dimmed,  the doors won’t open

the music that played changed key long ago

the dream that you dreamed

has floated away

Demons

they watched me
my familiar demons
always watched me
to seek a way in
setting their subtle
last minutes traps
never exactly a sin
more a delusion
or sudden mishaps

they watched me
i thought i knew them
pride before the fall
a deep need for freedom
self doubt and denial
no trust in love, no hope
faith always on trial
they used my own mind like a rope

they watch me now still
they don’t like what they see
i left their dark reach
i blocked up the breach
i am finally free to be
i follow my heart
they cant see in there
i don’t let them have the key

The Dreaming Path ~ a poem

Entering this fantasy
Leave not the Grove
That is my home.
However far
You may roam
Walk straight ahead
To find me.
Let no dragon,
though he be fierce,
Bar you from this vision.

Ignore the bridge
That is not mine.
Turn right
Onto a dreaming path
Where woodlands grow
In beauty.
Walk on
Along the river bank.
The way across
Is secret.
Travel
In the midnight hour
To better see
The lighted way.

See the heavens
Crystal shine
Across the dreaming river
Where currents flow
In silence
And sunset glows
Forever.
You have the key
Inside your heart
The waters will not part us.

Making Music

the joy, the thrill, the exaltation

when all our harmonies are right

as we weave around each other

moving in and out, the tune delights

we change the key, we change the mood

the mysteries of the minor drop

all the wistfulness and beauty

that makes us conscious of our loss

you bring the chords to a crescendo

i swoop the violin above

circling in a spiral, upward,

a melody of endless love

now the music plays itself through us

this is not our composition

it is handed down in trust

as we open wide our hearts

faster still, with wild abandon,

played in perfect resolution

at last a passage strong and tender

ending on a single  note

Shadowed

in springtime we wandered into the wood
walking through carpets of bluebells
their deep throated scent filled the air
we spoke of golden dreams, hopes shared,
tenderness, beauty, love

the air seemed to change, birds silenced,
a shift in the wind carried a chill
leaves rustled, foretelling a storm,
we drew closer together, light faded,
the wood grew still, night fell

owls hooted, trees shivered
off in the distance a twig snapped
shadows shifted, moving closer
limbs crashed down in the wood
we sought the forgotten way out

in a world full of shadows and light
lighting fires, frightened of witches,
huddled like Hansel and Gretel
holding on to each other tight
hoping to find the trail

cursed from the start
curses piling upon us
doomed by darkness and gloom
demons and traps closing in
too fast for any escape

in a world full of shadows and light
sunlight flashed through the trees as we ran
black bars pierced by illumination, too brief
we couldn’t see where we were going
how could we find our way?

finally we found a door, too narrow,
i went through it alone
‘Go!’ you said, ‘I’ll be here.’
but you became lost in there
while i wandered on in the world

the paths never took me back
it was all so long ago
i forgot
how will i ever find you now?
i have no key for that door
